Are you our new Dutch Language Coach?

Do you want to help residents from your neighborhood (Prince Alexander) to improve their Dutch language? This mainly concerns newcomers who want to be able to talk in Dutch with their neighbors, at school or at work and would like to integrate. In various Houses of the District in Prince Alexander, volunteers in group community work give language lessons to these fellow residents, a group that is very diverse in terms of country of origin, language level and education. They are often very motivated. We respond to their questions such as: “I want to speak Dutch better” or: “I want to get a diploma but therefore have to write better Dutch” etc. Listening well is very important, you do not necessarily have to have teaching experience. Of course we will help you on your way. You can first join an experienced language coach and we will explain everything to you until you want to try it yourself. You can guide someone individually or work with a group. The language lessons are given in the Huizen van de Wijk in the Zevenkamp, Ombloed, Oosterflank and Het Lage Land districts, in the morning, afternoon and evening. Experiences of teachers and students: Language coach: “I have been a language coach for 5 years now and I really enjoy it. You see progress and notice that the teacher can talk better and better. With small tips he can continue. You also learn a lot yourself. I feel involved and it is also fun." Lesson holder: “Thanks to the language lessons, I can now confidently have conversations with colleagues in Dutch. My coach understands my learning needs and has helped me a lot in improving my pronunciation. Language coach: “I have been a language coach for about 7 years. It is very nice and fun to help people get started with the language in society. In those 7 years I have made some nice friendships. I'm still learning from it myself." Student: “The language lessons helped me get my diploma. My language coach gave me the support and motivation I needed. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity.” Are you interested or would you like more information? Then visit the Language Point on Thursday (NOTE: now closed due to holidays, open again from August 29) between 9.30 and 11.30 in the Huis van de Wijk in Ombloed, Sigrid Undsetweg 300. A Certificate of Good Conduct is required (will be reimbursed).

In Het Lage Land, Prins Alexander there is a "comfort home". A home where (technological) E-Health solutions (GoogleHome speaker, medicine dispenser, etc.), but also very simple solutions (magnifying glass, stick to pick up things from the floor, etc.), for the home are shown, more than 125 pieces. With the help of these products, people can continue to live in their own home longer, safer and more comfortably. For this comfort home (room with kitchen and separate bathroom, see photo) we are looking for a volunteer who can show visitors around and explain the handy solutions. The home is not a showroom but a normally furnished house. No products are sold. In addition to giving tours, there are also other tasks to be done and we consult with each other once every 3 months. Working hours are in consultation and flexible and depend on the requests, so you can organize your own time. There is a fixed drop-in moment once a month on Monday afternoon. Of course you will be properly trained! VOG is mandatory but will be reimbursed. For more information, see: [website hidden]

Challenge: build a hedgehog house

Once · 0 to 1 hours
Zorgzaam010

Hedgehogs have less and less space to live. They could really use our help! Every year, 135,000 hedgehogs die in traffic alone. Fortunately, we can help the hedgehogs. The Netherlands has 3 billion square meters of garden. And gardens are an important habitat for hedgehogs. A place where they find food and shelter. By helping hedgehogs in your garden, they don't have to travel long distances to find enough food. There is less chance that they have to cross a road. You can make a difference with your garden. Make your garden hedgehog-friendly: build a hedgehog house, provide a few junk corners and food in your garden. Together we make the whole of the Netherlands a home for hedgehogs. For everyone who wants to do something for parents and families affected by the childcare allowance affair. A foundation by and for parents of the allowance affair For years, parents have been wrongly accused by the Tax Authorities as fraudsters, with unprecedented emotional, relational and financial consequences. Unfortunately, there are tens of thousands of families who suffer from the consequences of the allowance affair and they are still waiting for recovery. As a volunteer of the (Equal) Worthy Recovery Foundation, you can provide direct support and make a difference for a family. Since October 2023, the (Equal) Worthy Recovery Foundation has been offering a people-oriented recovery approach developed by parents and independent (personal injury) experts. We work from our own direction, trust, neutrality and collectivity. Our goal is to resolve the allowance affair together more quickly and to offer parents the opportunity for emotional and financial recovery. To be able to do this for the many affected parents, we need you! Where you can make a difference for a parent by participating as a Listening Writer. This is what you do as a Listening Writer The recovery route focuses on the parent's own story, the Factual Account. In order to put this on paper, the parents (the Storytellers) are supported by a Listening Writer: a volunteer from society who listens without judgement and writes down the Parent's Factual Account. For the parent, the Factual Account consists of 3 parts: who were you before all the misery started, where are you now and where do you want to go? When the Factual Account is on paper, the parent can choose to have it calculated. In this way, as a volunteer, you make an important contribution to the parent's emotional and financial recovery. This is who you are as a Listening Writer Perhaps you have been following the news for years, the benefits affair affects you, you feel the urgency, and you want to do something concrete. By helping out, you are in fact saying to the people involved: I see and believe you. It is precisely this equality that motivates you to use your time and skills. As a person, you connect easily, equally and respectfully. You are open and curious about the person involved. You can listen deeply, unbiased and without (pre)judgments. You dare to ask questions and know how to create a safe environment. In addition, you are a fellow resident of the Netherlands. We advise you to register from the age of 21, because impactful events are discussed during the conversation. Some life experience is required to deal with this well. It is necessary to have a laptop and/or tablet in combination with a smartphone. Some IT skills are also useful: both the Storyteller and Listening Writer work in our online Portal. As a Listening Writer, you participate in a digital Start Meeting (1 hour), so that you can learn more about the role of Listening Writer and can get started well. Practice shows that being a Listening Writer requires an average of between 10 and 15 hours. This can vary, because the parent is in charge of the process and determines the speed. Register now! Do you also want to make a difference by connecting with a parent? Do you want to contribute to our goal of resolving the benefits affair more quickly? There are benefits parents in all regions of the Netherlands, including your region. Register via our website and become part of our independent collective. You can also help by sharing the Luisterend Schrijver call in a way that suits you (social media, in your organization, in your network). We also like to work together with Partners. Are you interested in more information about a collaboration? Then send a message!

Will you help Shahed (17) complete his HAVO?

Weekly · 1 to 2 hours
OpenEmbassy

Shahed (17) would like to complete HAVO. Will you help her with Dutch? Thanks to the help of another homeschooling buddy, Shahed was able to complete her VMBO with good grades. Now she is in 4 Havo and can use some extra support again. She is looking for an online TOMaatje who wants to help her successfully complete high school. Do you want to help someone realize her potential? We are looking for a volunteer for Shahed who: - Want to teach online once a week. - Has a good command of the Dutch language. - Is not afraid of the upper secondary school material to ensure that you can make good agreements. In consultation, you agree on a time during the week when you can provide online support. After that, it's time to have fun contact with each other and, above all, do a lot of homework together. How do we support you? You will receive guidance from TOMaatjes at the start, with tips for lesson content and access to the community with other TOMaatjes in it. Every 1-2 months there is an online intervision with lectures from professionals or you can discuss in groups how you can get more out of the tutoring. What do I need for it? - Be open to another culture. - Before you can start, we will request a Certificate of Good Conduct for you free of charge. Once it has arrived, you can start as soon as possible. - Want to help with everything that is covered in the upper years of HAVO. Being a homeschooling buddy is truly a very rewarding task. It starts with tutoring, but many of our volunteers really build a bond with the family where they work. Shahed's previous TOMaatje wrote this about her: "Until last summer holidays, I (as TOMaatje) guided a Syrian girl for 3 years, during which she transitioned from framework to theoretical, with the end result being a T-diploma with an average above 7. A wonderful result that gives me great satisfaction. left, and she can still fall back on me. My reward was her facial expression and that of her parents when I unexpectedly appeared at the graduation ceremony." We hope to welcome you soon if TOMaatje for Shahed or one of the many other children could use help.
