Jannie for Rotterdam
Jannie had wanted to live in Rotterdam for years, so when she finally succeeded, she also wanted to dedicate herself to this beautiful city. Through Zorgzaam010 she found volunteer work that suited her very well. “I wrote a message, got hired, and I've never stopped!” she says.
I never stopped!
"I work in a food center twice a week. People who don't have much to spend can do their shopping here for a small amount. I do everything here, from cleaning to keeping the store stocked. I like the contact the most. with the people who come. Everyone who comes by has his or her own story. That's very interesting! I notice that the customers really appreciate my interest. Just having that arm around them, she does that very well.
I was born in a village, and it was a very big step to live in Rotterdam. By doing voluntary work I was able to mean something to residents of Rotterdam, and I immediately got to know this city and its people well.
I feel the gratitude every day
I myself have always had a very good time, but having less to spend can happen to anyone. I keep realizing this. That's why I'm so happy to be able to do this, I feel the gratitude of the customers every day. And that makes me very grateful!"
Jannie would like to do even more for her customers. "We once organized a coffee morning. I spent days in the kitchen baking seven cakes. This morning was so much fun! I spoke to many customers, then I really got in touch with them and really heard their story. Unfortunately, our space is actually much too small for that. I would love to organize this more often. So here's a call: do you know a place where we could do this? I'd really like to hear about it!" Do you have the golden tip for Jannie? Mail this to [email protected] !
Ed is participating in Rotterdam
Ed is participating in Rotterdam Volunteering, in Ed's view, was always something you only do when you're retired. But when he saw what great initiatives there are on Zorgzaam010, he still wanted to contribute. "Finally I had the chance not to watch from the sidelines, but to actively work to help people. And then also in my own Rotterdam!", Ed says with a big smile on his face. And then also in my own Rotterdam! "Through Zorgzaam010 I came into contact with Meedoen in Rotterdam, a great club of people. They help children in families that have insufficient financial means. Now I visit these families to assess what they need and to see where we can help them.Sometimes we arrange a bicycle, other times a laptop or swimming lesson. I find it difficult to judge whether I like the home visits. Because the reason why I visit these families is not fun. But that is precisely why I can do so much for them, and that does me a lot of good. I can make a difference, because our help makes it a little easier for these children to participate in the classroom, in society. If you start in your own environment, you can go a long way!
