Shopping Help Guidelines
The 15 guidelines for grocery help
How nice that you want to go shopping for someone! Shopping can be a difficult task for someone at the moment due to illness or protection. So good that you can help someone. Safety first, so make sure you stick to the guidelines below to make everything go as safe as possible
- Make agreements by telephone about when and where the groceries will be done. Make sure you agree on clear days and stick to this date. Someone is counting on your help when you make an appointment, so keep it and don't let someone down.
- Discuss in advance whether you want reimbursement for any travel costs and also agree when and how these will be settled. Prevent disagreements or unforeseen costs afterwards.
- The person for whom you do your shopping (during the Corona crisis) does not go to the store. Protect the vulnerable people by letting them stay at home and do not go to the supermarket with several people. Shop alone as much as possible and avoid grocery shopping as a family outing.
- Keep an appropriate distance at the door and in the store (at least 1,5 meters). Take into account the store staff and ensure that they can also do their work safely.
- Preferably go through the shopping list by phone in advance. This way you make sure that nothing will be forgotten.
- Make clear agreements about finances. We advise that the person who does the shopping receives a rounded amount of money (preferably in an envelope). That amount should be higher than the expected costs for the groceries. Also consider a coin for the shopping cart.
- Never take a debit card or credit card from the person you are shopping for, nor do you pin for him or her. If there is no cash available, send a payment request or tikkie.
- Do not hand the money in hand, but place it on a flat surface.
- Write down for yourself how much money you have been given and ask the person you are doing this for to do the same.
- Ask the person you do the shopping for to check the receipt and change immediately after shopping.
- If something is not right, report it to each other immediately.
- You can wait outside when bringing the groceries. If you do go inside, keep this visit short and keep your distance. If necessary, you can help store the groceries.
- Do not shake hands, wash your hands regularly or disinfect them well, especially after handling shopping carts or baskets.
- If you don't feel well, hand this job over to someone else. Do not take any risks and especially do not come to risk groups if you experience a complaint yourself.
- Telephone contact afterwards is always nice, the social aspect is also important!
